The practical difference between hiring a trade and hiring a contractor is who carries the gaps. If you hire a bricklayer, a roofer and an electrician separately, the sequencing between them is yours to manage, and so is the argument when one of them turns up to find the previous one has not finished.

BXC Developments takes the whole job: the structural design, the other trades, the programme, and building control sign-off at the end of it. On smaller work we will happily be the single trade instead, and we will tell you which one your job actually needs rather than selling you the bigger one.

Choosing the right one

Adding space

If you need more room, the choice is usually between a loft conversion and an extension. The loft is generally the cheaper square metre. The extension gives you the ground floor space that most families actually want.

Fixing the outside

Roofing and brickwork are the two things that keep weather out of a house. If either needs doing, do it before you spend money on anything inside, because water will find the new work first.

Changing the whole house

A full renovation is the right answer when you would otherwise be doing four separate jobs across two years. It is more disruptive and it is usually cheaper than the four jobs added up.

After a disaster

Fire and flood reinstatement is its own discipline because it is an insurance claim before it is a building job. It has its own page for that reason.

Do you charge for a quote?
No. Site visits and quotes are free, and free quotes is the only price commitment anywhere on this website. We do not publish fixed prices for building work, because no two houses in Luton are the same and a price list would either be wrong or padded to cover the worst case.

What areas do you cover?
Luton and Dunstable are where most of our work is, along with Houghton Regis, Caddington, Slip End, Streatley, Barton-le-Clay, Toddington, Harpenden and Leighton Buzzard. BXC Developments is run by Bes Cuni, and Bes is the person you deal with. That is worth asking any builder, because on plenty of jobs the person who quotes is never seen again once the deposit clears.

What qualifications does BXC hold?
Bes Cuni is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB), an Associate of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (AssocRICS), and holds an NVQ Level 7 in construction management. The CIOB and RICS registers are both public, so you do not have to take our word for any of it. How quickly will you come out?
Bes answers his own phone and normally replies the same day. A site visit is usually within a few days, depending on where you are and what is running.
